CAPTAIN FERDOUSI- IN UNTRADITIONAL JOB IN SUDAN- PROUD OF BANGLADESH

She is the only woman serving in a military demining platoon. Captain Ferdousi seems unfazed about the dangerous work she does. She is 27 years old and bomb disposal and explosive ordnance expert. In September 2010 she joined UN mission in Sudan.

Demining means- removing mines and unexploded ordnances from area exposed to them in war.

She said” it is not about being male or female, it is about the confidence, patience and determination you have”. She added that, she was attracted to the challenges and new experiences demining offered.

As she is a team leader, she gives a safety briefing on safety and casualty evacuation procedures before work begins.

It is a risky and challenging job and under command depends on her. So it is a huge responsibility for her.

As Bangladesh has no mines she has undergone training and studied demining procedures on books, but has no previous hands-on experience.

Demining is a life risk matter but nowadays she gained confidence.

Captain Ferdousi is married to Captain Badrul Ahsan Khan who is currently serving in Bangladeshi military in the UN operation in Ivory Coast.

She is only and one Bangladeshi female demining specialist in the world working in high risk job, where it’s largely avoided by women across the globe.

So, all of us should feel proud of her as we are Bangladeshi, where the peoples of other countries respecting and feeling proud of her.

Specially ,now I am working in Sudan and feeling proud so much which no body will knows until he or she come here in Sudan.

FEMALE CIRCUMCISION IN SUDAN - A LIFE THREATENING JOB

Female Circumcision (Mutilation) refers to procedures involving partial or complete removal of the external female genitalia (Labia majora+Labia minora+Clitoris).

Generally performed in Sudan where a girl is between 8 and 12 years old. In 2006, according to the house hold health survey of Sudan, almost 7 women out of 10, are subjected to circumcision.

Basically it is control over a women’s sexual desire (due to cut off most sensitive clitoris).

Why they do it?

1. It is a traditional conviction that, a women will remain virgin and after marriage be faithful to her husband.

2. They belief that female circumcision results in cleanliness and good health, and that the practice is required by Islam ( though nothing mentioned about it in Quran and Hadis).

A female circumcision practitioner generally make at least 39USD plus in kind of gifts for each circumcision.

The process is often carried out without hygienic tools. Thus contributing to infections and the spread of diseases, including Hepatitis and HIV.

Sudanese government trying to stop the practice by the help of UNICEF. However most Sudanese women still view the issue as private as tend to remain silent.

I am hopping the Sudanese women will be respected soon and the government will stop the practice by making a law.

BANGLADESHI RIKSHWA vs SUDANIES RIKSHWA

We know about Bangladeshi Rikshwa. Even everybody of us have the experience to ride it. Some one of us may have the experience to ride the rikshwa with  girl friend and it has different type of sensation. I will not talk more about it. My concentration is in another point. My dear friends after reading the Title please dont think that the Rikshwa is available in other countries like bangladesh. I am talking about Rikshwa of Sudan. You know Sudan is a poor rapidly developing country but more developed than bangladesh. They have Rikshwa. How come? Just i told that, other than bangladesh there is no Rikshwa. Actually The Sudanies Rikshwa is totally different from bangladeshi Rikshwa. Name (Rikshwa) is same but vehicles are totally different. I was a little bit surprised after hearing that they call it Rikshwa in Sudan.The vehicle is nothing but same as Bangladeshi CNG( 4 stroke 3 wheel). They import it from India like us, but they never use cng(gas) to run it as here petrol is cheap. Dear friend I was surprised because different country , different vehicle but same name.At least i found a similarity here with my Homeland Bangladesh. I am proud of it.
